The City of Wyoming, Michigan, located southwest of Grand Rapids, has a population of 76,501 as of the 2020 census. With a forward-looking City Manager and a supportive IT leadership team, the City of Wyoming is committed to enhancing its IT infrastructure and organizational maturity.
Upon the arrival of a new City Manager in May 2023, the City of Wyoming sought an objective, third-party evaluation of its IT infrastructure, processes, and personnel. The goal was to gain a comprehensive, unbiased understanding of the City’s current IT environment and the ability of IT to support future strategic City planning.
Prompted by the City’s five-year plan, the City Manager, alongside the Deputy City Manager and Director of Information Technology, advocated for a thorough assessment. This initiative led to the issuance of an RFP for an IT assessment in Fall 2023.
Dewpoint’s thorough response to the RFP impressed the City of Wyoming, leading to a contract award in early 2024. The City selected Dewpoint based on Dewpoint’s experience with IT assessments and our consultative approach, which aligned well with the City’s objectives.
Our assessment team engaged extensively with business unit leaders, IT Department staff, and other stakeholders to develop a 360-degree perspective of the IT organization. Key discussions with the City Manager, as the project’s executive sponsor, helped clarify the intended outcomes of the assessment, which included long-term strategic planning, equipment lifecycle management, process improvement, and staffing considerations.
Dewpoint’s evaluation provided insights into the maturity level of the City’s IT organization and identified pathways for succession planning and leadership development. Dewpoint delivered a comprehensive assessment report detailing the IT organization’s current state, interactions with other city departments, and a clear roadmap to address key areas of focus for both immediate and long-term improvements. The suggested improvements within the roadmap were further broken down by categorizing the improvements with high level cost, time, ROI, and connection to various City long-term planning initiatives to help the City of Wyoming decide what to work on first post assessment.
Following the initial assessment, the City of Wyoming engaged Dewpoint to establish a Project Management Office (PMO) and to review and enhance IT processes across the organization. Recognizing our expertise, the City also entrusted Dewpoint to optimize its Microsoft 365 environment.
The scope of the Microsoft 365 optimization project included the evaluation of the Microsoft tenant to ensure it was provisioned optimally, with a focus on licensing and security configurations. Optimizing this environment was critical for the City, as it prepared for an extensive SharePoint build-out, also in collaboration with Dewpoint.
